This Institute was created out of Engineering College, Chittagong that was established in 1968. The Chittagong Engineering College functioned as the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Chittagong. Through a Government ordinance in 1986, the college was converted into an Institute of Technology. In 2003 this institute of technology was converted into a public university. The honorable President of Bangladesh is the Chancellor of the University.
CUET is unique and incompatible due to its proximity to Chittagong, the major sea-port and the beautiful Hill city of the country. The University is situated by the side of the Chittagong-Kaptai road some 25 kilometers off from the center of Chittagong City. Moreover all the tourist attractions of the country like the large hydroelectric plant, the natural beauty of the lake of Kaptai, hill sports of Rangamati, Bandarban, the longest sea beach of the world and tourist resort of Cox’s Bazar are only a few hours journey.
Department of Architecture has marked a progression in the history of Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology which has been established in 2009 under the Faculty of Architecture & Planning. The Department of Architecture has been established alongside the existing engineering education. The Department of Architecture is committed to advance architectural education through different programs and researches. The department continuously endeavors to instill in the students a firm intellectual and professional base. The course curricula are designed to bring out the best in students aspiring to enter the profession. The University Library has a section for the Department of Architecture, which is very rich in providing essential reading material for the Undergraduate course.

Civil Engineering is a broadly based discipline which applies technical skill and humanistic perception in solving problems related to the creation, preservation and advancement of civilization. Almost any solution to every societal problem has some connection with civil engineering including the development, utilization, and control of resources for the benefit of human beings. The Civil Engineering programs of CUET aim at providing students with advanced knowledge and intellectual stimulation to meet the challenges in the development of a modern society.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was established in 1998 with the capacity of 60 students per session with a vision to produce skilled computer professionals for the betterment of the world and to nourish the technology. Currently, the number of undergraduate student intake is 130 per academic session (two sections of 65 students each).
From the year 2011, the department has launched the post-graduate programs which include M. Sc.
Engineering and M. Engineering. The department has started the PhD program from the year 2015. The
faculty members are devotedly doing research works with their under graduate and post- graduate
students. Their research efforts contribute around a good number of publications every year in different nationaland international conferences and journals. The department publishes a peer reviewed research journal“Computer Science and Engineering Research Journal” every year as well.
The department of EEE has been playing a vital role in producing engineers since its inception in 1968. The department runs undergraduate as well as postgraduate to cater to the ever challenging needs of technical excellence in all areas of electrical & electronics engineering. It has distinguished faculty members who are competent and skilled in different fields of electrical & electronics engineering. For Practical understanding, EEE department has well-equipped laboratory facilities with modern equipment and training kits. Our vision is to provide the best opportunities to the students of our beloved country for achieving world-class education to enable them to participate in the development of society.
Today, we are at the peak of the information technology age, and communication engineering plays a vital role in today’s rapidly changing world. In this prospect, CUET has launched Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) in the year 2012. The vision of this department is to make great contribution by producing efficient and resourceful engineers with research and development capabilities. The ETE Department has well qualified and experienced faculty members with areas of specialization that include Embedded Systems, Applied Electronics and VLSI design. The department has taken step to collect technologically advanced equipment and to build enriched laboratories. Students will be given vast amount of practical exposure through the use of innovative methodologies in the design and development of electronics, which is the backbone for all engineering disciplines.
The Mechanical Engineering Department established to focus on expertise and leadership to her graduates. Here a strong program is offered at the undergraduate (4 years B Sc Engineering) and postgraduate (2 years M Sc Engineering) level aimed at meeting the needs of Industries and thus contributing to the economic growth of the country. The courses cover a wide range and include electronics, computing, information processing, industrial management, control theory, etc. as well to cope up with today’s interdisciplinary demand. The main objective is to prepare graduates with an international perspective that ensures organizational competitiveness and growth in a dynamic technological and business environment.
Welcome to the Department of Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering
The use of Mechatronics system and industrial product automation is inevitable to enhance the productivity and the growth of national economy. And, it is a matter of time that all industries are going to be replaced by automated technology to achieve the vision of knowledge based industry in Bangladesh. Therefore, to meet the technological challenges, study and research in the field of mechatronics and its application to industrial processes has become important issue in Bangladesh. CUET is always devoted to spread knowledge and little bit more conscious about the present demand of technologies. CUET has also 2020 vision to extend its education and research fields by opening a good number of new departments. Considering these aspects, CUET has launched the Department of Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering (MIE) in 2015. In undergraduate program, 30 students are admitted in the department of MIE each academic year through common admission procedure of CUET.
The Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering (PME) offers Bachelor of Science in Petroleum and Mining engineering which is one the top university level programs among the engineering universities in Bangladesh. This discipline is founded in March, 2010. 30 students are enrolled in this discipline every year. The department has a good number of quality faculties and has very well organized and enriched lab facilities.
The mission of the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering is to guide all efforts aiming to build, sustain, incorporate, convey and apply petroleum and mining engineering knowledge, and to augment the human resources of these disciplines
and thus to help ensuring the nation an energy-secure future that balances environmental impact and affordable energy supply. The vision of the department is to stay put as the number one petroleum and mining engineering program in the country, so that its graduates are globally admired, respected and fit-for-purpose professionals within the industry.
To fulfill this mission, the PME department committed to pursue excellence in Well Logging and Formation Evaluation, Well Drilling and Completions, Reservoir Engineering, Production Engineering, Integrated Reservoir Characterization, Fit-for-purpose Reservoir Management Techniques, and Mining Engineering including Mine Surveying, Rock Mechanics, Mining Systems, Mine Planning and Design, Rock Blasting and Explosive Technology with balance environmental impact. To accelerate the journey of this department world distinguished petroleum software development company Petroleum Experts Ltd. has donated the equivalent of £981,425.00 to the University providing full package of Petroleum Experts’ suite of programs (IPM suite). The department also got the generous contribution from the KAPPA Engineering and Fekete Associates getting the full suite of their petroleum engineering software.
The CUET SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) student chapter has started its journey in 2017. This chapter organizes networking and knowledge sharing events that help the student to stay in touch with the petroleum world.
The WRE Department of CUET offers Undergraduate Degree Programme to impart education towards an understanding of the complexity of water use and water resources engineering problems by offering a balanced curriculum, covering both engineering and management aspects of water resource development. Our aim is to teach students to acquire knowledge and hand on practice tool and techniques to come up with viable and sustainable solutions. Graduates from this department will be able to face the current challenges of securing water and effectively deal with spatial and temporal variability and uncertainty of water.
DURP at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) is primarily concerned with the development planning at the urban, rural, regional and local levels. Besides this program encourages its students to develop specializations within the field of urban planning, rural planning, transportation planning, housing and real estate development, disaster management and environmental planning, tourism and recreation planning and to expand their intellectual horizons through training in the related fields of architecture, landscape planning, civil engineering, social science, public policy and political science. In Project/Thesis work, provision of analyzing any urban, rural or regional problems with major findings and recommendation concerning sustainable planning perspective is exposed for all the fellows.
At present the academic program is successfully running with 15 (Fifteen) teachers and 4 (Four) adjunct faculty who provide their best expertise level for the fellow student. Besides, department hire specialized and experienced personnel from professional field to teach the fellow students as guest teacher. The Department is persistent in its efforts to improve its research facilities to meet the growing technological challenges confronting the country.
